Karibelle shea
butter is imported directly from the Union des productrices de produits
karité de la
Sissili et du Ziro (UGPPK/S-Z). The Union encompasses hundreds of rural
women from the provinces of Sissili and Ziro, in southern Burkina Faso.
Union members depend on shea butter revenues to satisfy their basic family
needs. Throughout poor countries of the world, women’s economic empowerment
is a determining factor in improving educational levels and women’s
social status, reducing fertility rates, prolonging life expectancies,
and promoting overall economic development. Karibelle shea butter is purchased according to the principles of fair
trade. This implies that producers are paid equitable prices for their
products and that production techniques are environmentally sustainable.
Producers of Karibelle shea butter are members of a democratic producer
cooperative, and have safe and dignified working conditions. The cooperative
reinvests its profits into the village community. Improved remuneration
also increases producers’ incentives to protect the shea tree, thereby
leading to the species’ conservation. Please opt for fairly traded products whenever possible! |
